EMBO Practical Course - Quantitative intensive course in electron microscopy for cell biology
About the Practical Course
Electron microscopy is a fundamental tool in cell biology, providing visualization of cellular structures at the highest possible resolution. The goal of this EMBO Practical Course is to guide participants from established methods of specimen preparation to novel and technically advanced approaches, including high-pressure freezing/freeze substitution, cryo-ultramicrotomy, and on-section immuno-gold labelling. This EMBO Practical Course places strong emphasis on hands-on training in advanced 3D acquisition and quantitation techniques, in particular transmission EM tomography, scanning EM array tomography, and serial block-face scanning EM. In addition, this EMBO Practical Course introduces stereology, a mathematical approach for quantifying cellular structures. Participants are encouraged to bring their own specimens and will receive project-driven training on how to integrate newly emerging techniques into a comprehensive research framework.
About EMBO Courses and Workshops
EMBO Courses and Workshops are selected for their excellent scientific quality and timelines, provision of good networking activities for all participants and speaker gender diversity (at least 40% of speakers must be from the underrepresented gender).
Organisers are encouraged to implement measures to make the meeting environmentally more sustainable.
