Professor Pavel Jungwirth Has Passed Away

We received with deep sorrow the news of the tragic passing of Professor Pavel Jungwirth, one of the Czech Republic's most distinguished scientists, an internationally renowned physical chemist, a long-standing researcher at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and former President of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic.

Professor Jungwirth was one of the most prominent figures of his generation in Czech science. Through his pioneering research on molecular interactions in aqueous environments, ions and biomolecules, he made outstanding contributions to the advancement of physical chemistry while significantly influencing numerous fields of biology and biomedicine. He was not only an exceptional scientist but also an inspiring teacher, mentor and tireless advocate for science, with a remarkable ability to engage both the scientific community and the wider public.

His passing is a great loss to the Czech and international scientific community. The staff of the Institute of Parasitology, Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences, extend their sincere condolences to his family, loved ones, colleagues and friends.
