Paper Co-authored by Researchers from the Institute of Parasitology Receives the European Microscopy Society Outstanding Paper Award 2025
We are pleased to announce that the paper Targeted volume imaging reveals early vascular interactions of Lyme disease pathogen in skin, co-authored by researchers from the Institute of Parasitology, Biology Centre CAS, has received the European Microscopy Society (EMS) Outstanding Paper Award 2025 in the Life Sciences category.
The EMS Outstanding Paper Award is presented annually to recognize exceptional publications in the field of microscopy. Papers are evaluated based on their scientific excellence, technical quality, originality, expected impact, and overall contribution to microscopy. In 2025, a total of 16 papers were nominated, with 14 meeting the eligibility criteria for evaluation.
The award-winning study, published in Nature Communications, was authored by Martin Strnad, Jiří Týč, František Kitzberger, Jana Kopecká, Ryan O. M. Rego, and Marie Vancová. Using advanced targeted volume imaging, the researchers uncovered early interactions between the Lyme disease pathogen and the skin vasculature, providing new insights into the initial stages of infection.
The award will be presented during the 21st International Microscopy Congress (IMC21), to be held in Liverpool, UK, from 31 August to 4 September 2026.
