Julius Lukeš elected Honorary Member of the British Society for Parasitology
Julius Lukeš has been elected an Honorary Member of the British Society for Parasitology (BSP). This prestigious lifetime distinction is awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of parasitology and reflects his significant achievements in molecular parasitology and protist evolution, particularly his research on kinetoplast DNA, RNA editing and mitochondrial biology in parasites. The award also acknowledges his long-standing engagement with the international scientific community.
For 2026, the BSP announced new Honorary Members: Dr Clive Bennett, Prof Graham Clarke, Prof Julius Lukeš and Prof Dominique Soldati-Favre.
Julius Lukeš is internationally recognised for his extensive contributions to molecular parasitology and protist evolution, especially his work on kinetoplast DNA, RNA editing, mitochondrial biology, and key metabolic pathways in the genera Trypanosoma and Leishmania. He has also been actively involved in the BSP and the wider scientific community for many years, including organising two conferences in České Budějovice.
We warmly congratulate him on this distinguished honour.
